Wellman second to coach in LA meet
coach and arch-rival Mike Conley in the triple jump at the Bruce Jenner Classic in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Wellman jumped a wind-assisted 56 feet, 43 inches, while Conley, of the United States, was first on 57 feet, 61 inches.
A week earlier Wellman finished first at the New York Games with a leap of 57 feet and three-quarters inches.
The reigning Bermuda Athlete of the Year had his best performance of the year in April at the Texas El Paso Invitational when he recorded a jump of 57 feet, 11 inches.
Edrick Floreal of Canada was third on Saturday with a leap of 56 feet, one-half inch while Lofti Khaida of Algeria was fourth on 55 feet, three-quarters inches. Fifth was Joseph Taiwo of the US with a jump of 53 feet, 53 inches.
"Right now everything is going really well and things are coming together,'' the 26-year-old said last week.
Wellman is hoping to bring home a gold medal this summer at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia.
