Southampton Princess Hotel is the venue for this annual event in which competitors are timed individually over a steep climb, this year starting from the Whaler Inn and finishing at the hotel. Previously riders began from the Middle Road side of the hotel near Waterlot Inn.

Although Hubbard, who demonstrated his hill climbing prowess at this year's Commonwealth Games in Canada, is expected to win easily, Looby is determined to put up a fight.

"Everyone's expecting Elliott to put out the best performance. But I can rise to the occasion and I'm going to do my best to make it interesting,'' said Looby, who has also raced overseas this year.
