White takes dinghy lead

Barring the outcome of a protest, Will White and his crew took over top spot from Contest by one point after first and third-place finishes in Fitted Dinghy Racing in St. George's Harbour on Sunday.

In the first race, better spinnaker sets on the first windward mark allowed Echo , Port Royal and Contest to punch out ahead of the rest of the six-boat fleet. White was then able to capitalise on a fight for second between the others boats and win easily, with Contest second.

Between races, a decision was made at the RBYC camp to take the race to Port Royal and force her into a match-racing duel for the second race.

That opened the door for Paula Lewin's Challenger , which won the race, but it closed quickly on Contest and skipper Andreas Lewin.

Trailing the fleet a third of the way along the last downwind leg, Port Royal and Contest split tacks, with White heading for the middle and Andreas Lewin to the right.

All alone in clear air, White tacked back into a lift as Port Royal snuck into third place behind Elizabeth . Contest was last.
