Dillas helps trio move up leaderboard

Jarryd Dillas led Bermuda's modest revival at the World Amateur Team Golf Championships in Adelaide, Austraila yesterday where he eagled the par-five 15th on the way to a team-low four-over-par 77 at the 7,215 yard Royal Adelaide Golf Club lay-out.

That the Bermuda team of three climbed five places up the leaderboard owed much to Dillas' impressive round that went a long way towards compensating for a disappointing opening round score of ten-over-par 82, which included three double bogeys.

The University of Rhodes graduate had just two bogeys yesterday.

Bermuda are now tied with Zimbawbe and Bolivia in 52nd place in a field of 65.

Meanwhile, Daniel Augustus continued his steady form Down Under as he carded a five-over-par 78 on day two of the 72-hole event that included one birdie, four bogeys and a double at the par-five second.

The past Fechio Cup and Bank of Bermuda Foundation International Junior Championship winner shot a six-over-par 78 in the first round.

In contrast, Nick Jones' poor dip in form spilled over into the second round as for the second consecutive day he came in at 11 over-par 84.

Jones' round got off to a promising start when he birdied the second hole. But the momentum quickly shifted the other way as the Stetson University student carded a triple bogey at the very next hole and then added two double bogeys on the back nine to come completely unstuck.

Jones has yet to contribute to Bermuda's two-round total as only the lowest two scores count at the end of each round.

USA and Scotland are the current joint leaders of the tournament at 273, followed by New Zealand who remain eight shots back in third with two rounds left to play.

The Netherlands, currently tied with France and South Africa for tenth, are the defending World Amateur Team champions.

In the last World Amateur Team Championships in 2006, Bermuda placed 39th out of 70 teams.
