De ste Croix takes honours in Ferry Reach

Neil de ste Croix took the honours in the solo category in the second annual Bicycle Works Mountain Bike Race at Ferry Reach over the weekend.

De ste Croix, who is leading the Conrad Mountain Bike Series, completed the 14 laps of the course in four hours, one minute and 13 seconds, ahead of Team Fast Forward Bicycle Works team-mate Ian Port.

In his first ever endurance event Port finished his 14 laps in 4:15.31.

Grant Goudge came in third place despite taking additional time during pit stops to take on extra food, drink and attach lights, until a run-in with a cactus left him with a flat tyre. He completed his 11 laps in three hours, 32 minutes to finish ahead of another first time endurance racer, Daryl Alexander.

In the team race it was Team Madison's Dominic Mayho and Neil Lupsic who held off a late charge from Winners Edge Rider Treshun Corriera and his partner Peter Dunne, to finish 15 laps in an elapsed time 3:59.58 with Corriera's team a mere four minutes behind.

Rounding out the top three was the team of Dexter Smith and Hans Herschi who rode a straight two hours each as opposed to the other teams who choose to alternate riders every one or two laps.

The next event on the calendar will be the sixth race in the Conrad's point series which takes place at Admiralty House Park on March 13, starting at 9.15 am.
