Phillips’ team top of the table
Sullivan Phillips says he’s delighted with how his first season in the Slovakian Men’s National Basketball League has started with BC Prievidza currently sitting atop the standings.
Phillips and his Prievidza team-mates currently hold a one-game lead over second-placed sides BK Spu Bemaco Nitra and BK Spisska Nova Ves after nine games, boasting a 7-2 record.
Their only losses of the season are to both Nitra and Nova Ves.
After a 72-69 win over Handlova on Saturday, the 32-year-old said he was happy to be a part of the early season league leaders.
“Things are good for both myself and the team and the season is really going well,” said Phillips. “We are 7-2 and on top of the standings, have great nucleus of players and feel very strong.
“We feel that we have a great chance to be right at the top when season’s done and we want to remain consistent and in the hunt for the title.
“The season isn’t won after one month, so we have to stay focused.”
Phillips went to Slovakia in good form after being involved in the Natwest Island Games in the summer where he received the Golden Ball Award as well as being named Tournament MVP in the summer.
The big man is currently second in the league in steals (2.6) and sixth in assists (5.2) per game.
Prievidza are in action tonight against Levice who have a 4-5 record.
Phillips has played in England, Hungary, Czech Republic, and most recently Cyprus, winning titles in England and Cyprus.
