DeShields fires New Life into top spot

The lead in the Senior Winter Netball League swapped hands for the second time in as many weeks during the last round of matches this year at Bernard Park over the weekend.Previous leaders New Life replaced defending champions Data Tech Netts at the summit after cruising to a comfortable 64-27 win over lowly Young Men’s Social Club Blazing Bluebirds.Deborah DeShields poured in 48 points to spearhead New Life’s charge while Fredericka Samuels replied with 21 points for Blazing Bluebirds who remain second from last in the ten team standings.New Life are currently level on points (15) with Data Tech Netts but boast a far superior goal difference (+208) than the defending champs (+127) who have gone unbeaten so far this season.Data Tech Netts, who have a game in hand on the leaders, won by default over mid-table Smooth and Easy Tigers.In Junior Winter League action, leaders Signworx got past IAS Shooters 47-13 to extend their unbeaten streak in the Under-16 Division to three. Powering Signworx to victory was Danielle Onyia who led all scorers with 43 points while Taahira Butterfield led the IAS Shooters with ten points in a losing cause.The remaining Under-16 match saw second-placed North Village Lady Rams edge Young Men’s Social Club Junior Blueirds 17-14 in a see-saw battle that could have gone either way. Cher-Rai Furbert led Lady Rams’ victory charge with 13 points while Keizhari Knight topped the Junior Bluebirds scoring with 11 points.Signworx, the sole unbeaten team in the league, currently top the Under-16 Division by three points over nearest rivals Lady Rams.Also stretching their unbeaten streak at the weekend were Under-14 Division leaders Young Men’s Social Club Bluebird Young’uns who beat Data Tech 18-12. Satashie Rogers spearheaded the Young’uns with 10 points while Donnaruri Robinson replied with the same amount of points in a losing cause. Data Tech remain third in the four-team standings.The remaining Under-14 Division contest saw Nu -Art Superstarz crush North Village Lady Rams 27-3 to keep leaders Bluebird Young’uns within sight. T’James Branch (10) and Shondae Woods-Bell (nine) combined for 19 points to lead Nu-Art Superstarz to victory while Deja Harvey accounted for all of Lady Rams’ scoring.Under-12 Division leaders Netts Whites also extended their unblemished record for the season when they hammered winless DC Warriors 35-9 with Teyah Lindo leading the way with 22 points. Zahria Furbert replied with five points for DC Warriors.Keeping hot on the heels of Netts Whites were nearest rivals North Village Lady Rams who beat bottom team Cougar Cubs 17-5. Brianna Swainson poured in 12 points for Lady Rams while Kylah Hunt scored four for Cougar Cubs who have yet to savour a win this season.The remaining Under-12 contest saw third-placed Young Men’s Social Club Baby Bluebirds prevail by a score of 13-7 against Netts Greens who suffered their second loss of the season. Krishay Tucker led Baby Bluerbirds scoring with six points while Nyumi Tear matched that total in a losing cause for Netts Green.
