Bermuda ice queen

Bermuda ice skater Vanessa James and her partner Morgan Cipres have qualified for the Pairs Long Programme at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Nice, France.

James and Cipres, who are representing France, finished 13th in Wednesday's Pairs Short Programme with 50.51 points.

Before becoming a French citizen, James, who attended Mount St Agnes and whose father Kevin is from Bermuda, was the former British National Champion (2006) and in 2007 won the silver medal.

Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy of Germany grabbed the lead in the Pairs Short Programme on Wednesday. China's Qing Pang/Jian Tong finished second while Narumi Takahashi/Mervin Tran of Japan are currently sitting in third.

The Championships continue until Sunday.
