Pai retains singles title in Flood tournament

Rohan Pai defended his men’s singles title as he beat Rick Dorush in the annual Victor Flood Badminton Tournament last week.Pai won the match 21-13, 21-7 in a repeat of the 2010 final.In the women’s singles final, Emma Cahil, a former Ireland international, was too strong for Loan Khahil who had just returned to the game after a long absence, taking the title 21-5, 21-8.In the men’s doubles, Sinclair Ball and John Turner gave the number one seeds, Rohan Pai and Joseph Lam, an early scare taking the first game 21-19.The favourites came back strongly, however, to take the next two 21-7, 21-11 to reach the final.In the second half of the draw, number two seeds Mark Haugen and Robert Xia had to fight hard against Jayson Calucag and Huat Lim Kim, winning 21-17, 21-18.The final was a close contest with the lead changing regularly before Pai and Lam came out on top 21-19, 21-19In the mixed doubles final, Emma Calow and Jayson Calucag took on husband and wife team, Mark Haugen and Rowena Cespedes, who clawed their way to victory 21-19, 21-19.
