Fun day for Bubba

If Bubba Watson had to sum up the opening round of the PGA Grand Slam it appears “fun” would be the appropriate adjective.Although the Masters winner is just two shots behind leader Padraig Harrington, it seems enjoyment was his priority yesterday.“It was fun. Anytime you can come to this event, it’s fun. Some of the caddies were looking for hole locations for this event; but it’s like, this is fun right now, why are you working so hard,” said the left-handed American.“The weather was perfect, the fans were great. So, yeah, it was good.”Webb Simpson, winner of this year’s US Open, carded a 69 in the 36-hole event, leaving him three shots adrift of Harrington. He said he was satisfied with his opening round but required a strong start today to put himself back into contention.“Overall it was a good day. I never really got anything going, but you know, it was solid,” he said.“I would say I need to get off to probably a better start tomorrow to have a chance. Three back isn’t that far and hopefully we can play good tomorrow and hopefully make a few more birdies.”Keegan Bradley hasn’t given up hope of defending his Grand Slam title despite being six shots behind Harrington after carding a 72.And he didn’t believe his score was a true reflection of how he had played.“I had some unlucky lies out there to be honest with you, but I played very well. I could have really let it slip away and fought back and had a bunch of lip-outs, too, and the round could have been better than it was,” said Bradley.“You know, Padraig is playing very well. I’ve been six shots back before with less time, so I look forward to going out tomorrow and just making a million birdies and having a good time.“It’s been a really enjoyable group. Everybody is so nice and friendly and Padraig played great today. If he plays the way he did, I have no chance, but I look forward to a nice challenge tomorrow.”
