Swain, Yates claim rowing titles

Tyriq Brown and Jacinto Brown won the men's doubles scull rowing title on Saturday in Hamilton Harbour.

Michael Swain and Bethany Yates won men’s and ladies’ single sculls titles in the Bermuda Rowing Association’s End of Summer Camp Regatta on Saturday in Hamilton Harbour.Swain, president of the Bermuda Rowing Association, beat Will Porteous by half a length in a close finish during the 500 metres sprint near White’s Island.Yates beat sister Anita Yates by two lengths.In the ladies’ novice singles, well-known swimmer Eleanor Gardner beat Jennifer Wingate by three lengths while Jacinto Brown beat Tyriq Brown by four lengths in the Junior single sculls.Jacinto and Tyriq then teamed up to beat Forbes and Benjamin Williams by fourth lengths in the men’s doubles sculls, while in another men’s doubles sculls Jacinto Brown and Forbes beat Swan and Williams by three lengths.In two mixed doubles races, Swan and Bethany Yates defeated Anita Swain and Porteous and Gardner and Tyriq Brown beat Jennifer Wingate and Forbes.
