Bermuda’s netballers lose heavily in Scotland

Bermuda endured a baptism of fire in their opening group match at the World Youth Netball Championships in Glasgow, Scotland today. The Islanders suffered a heavy 107-16 loss to New Zealand in a lopsided affair at the Emirates Arena.Bermuda struggled to keep pace with the Kiwis who dominated both ends of the court. The Kiwis took early control of the match, carving out a five-point lead in the first four minutes and never looked back.“Today was definitely an eye opener,” said Bermudan captain, Jaylynn Hines. “We’ve never played a team quite like New Zealand.”Bermuda will face regional rivals Trinidad and Tobago in their second Group B match tomorrow.Having been soundly beaten by the Kiwis, Bermuda’s netballers are looking for an improved showing against Trinidad.“We definitely have the determination to do better than we did today,” added Hines.Bermuda, who are being led in Scotland by coaches Gina Benjamin and Anthony Mouchette, are making their first appearance at the World Youth Netball Championships in nearly a decade.
