Trio of titles for Treasure Isle at Wahoo Tournament

Treasure Isle claimed a hat-trick of titles at the annual Royal Gazette Wahoo Tournament on Sunday.

The boat, captained by Allan DeSilva and with Mike DeSilva and Maurice Caines onboard, took home the heaviest wahoo overall prize (83.1-lbs) — thanks to Caines. That triumph went along with Mike DeSilva's heaviest wahoo caught on a 20-pound test (57.3-lbs) and high point boat awards (3,596.90).

Tangalooma's Greg Bluck caught the heaviest wahoo on 30-pound test, his specimen weighing in at 36.6-lbs pounds.

Kathryn Garcia, onboard Reel Action, lifted the prize for the best fish landed on 16-pound test — 37.6-lbs.

The heaviest wahoo on a 12-pound test was Keith Pearman's 31.6 pounder on Paradise One. Paige Martin grabbed the high point junior title with a total of 867.30 points. Her best was 58.9-lbs hooked while fishing on Phuket.

The tournament was fished under good conditions, something that pleased organiser Bobby Rego after last year's close call with a storm on the eve of competition.

“Thanks to John Barnes, his weigh-in team and photographer Mark Tatem for braving the elements.”

A total of 24 fish from 12 different boats were brought to the dock for Sunday's weigh-in. Winners, their team-mates and all teams weighing in along with their guests are invited to the prize presentation on September 23 at 6.30pm at Spanish Point Boat Club.
