Crystal Ball leaves rivals trailing with blurry eyes

Whited, left, was among last weekend’s multiple heat winners at Vesey Street

Gelding Itsallaboutme continued to impress during harness racing at Bermuda Equestrian Centre at the weekend.

One of the newest racing ponies at the Vesey Street racetrack came to within two fifths of a second of getting a leg out the 1:06/1-1:07/1 time bar after taking line honours in heat seven with former PHC footballer Kenny Mills in the sulky.

Colt GV Smokem, ridden by Zinho Cooper, also posted a 1:06/3 to come close to getting a leg out of the same time bar.

Stallion American Treat also nearly got a leg out of the 1:05-1:06 division after running a 1:05/4 in heat 17 with female driver Keira Whited at the helm.

Stallion GV Crystal Ball posted the day’s fastest time of 1:04/2 competing in the Free for All with veteran driver Eddie Roque in the sulky.

Thomas Whited recorded the second and third-fastest times of 1:04/3 and 1:05, also during the Free for All with mare Abbey’s Dream.

Abbey’s Dream holds the track record for a mare of 1:03/3, while no pony has run faster than the 1:04 that GV Crystal Ball posted this season.

The evergreen David Lopes, one of the most senior drivers in the sport, was among last weekend’s multiple heat winners.

He claimed victory in heat one with gelding Pastor Paul in the 1:07/2-1:08/2 division and had another with mare LA Erma Time in the 1:13 & Slower division.

Casey Truran managed two wins with colt Inwood’s Generation — at present the fastest two-year-old in harness racing — in the 1:08/3-1:10/3 time bar, while Keith Woodley achieved the same feat in the 1:10/4-1:12/4 division with mare Spirit of Bruna.

Christian Roque and CJ Whited were the remaining multiple heat winners. Roque won two heats in the 1:08/3-1:10/3 division with gelding Shamrock High Alert and Whited had two wins with mare Black & Mild in the 1:05-1:06 division.

John Flood managed several podium displays. The veteran driver won heat four with Bermuda-bred filly Don’t Be Cruel in the 1:13 & Slower division.

He also captured two seconds with mare Just Like That in the 1:08/3-1:10/3 division and was also second in heat nine with Don’t be Cruel in the 1:13 & Slower division respectively.
