Millican given nod to head Sochi delegation

Chuck Millican, Stanley Douglas, Katura Horton-Perinchief and Donna Watson, the Bermuda National Athletic Association president, have been named as chefs de mission by the Bermuda Olympic Association for the Island’s four big international overseas events this year.

Millican will head the Bermuda delegation at the Winter Olympics, held in Sochi, Russia, from February 7 to 23, while Douglas will go to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow from July 23 to August 3.

Horton-Perinchief, a former Olympic diver, will head the team to the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, from August 16 to 28 and Watson the CAC Games team in Veracruz, Mexico, from November 14 to 30.

Millican has been a member of the BOA technical committee for the last two years and has served as its chairman for the last year.

He coached the Bermuda Olympic sailing team in 1992 and 1996 as well as at numerous international youth, American and CAC competitions. He acted as games director for the NatWest Island Games held in Bermuda last July. As a sailor, he won an American Games gold medal in the 470 Class in 1979.
