Changes made to Women’s Expo

The Women’s Expo is to be held biennially although the running race will be staged yearly, Donna Watson, the Bermuda National Athletics Association, said

Lisa Leslie, the United States basketball star, was the special guest at last year’s Expo.

Watson said: “With that being such a huge event to put on each year we have decided to have the full expo every other year.

“What we will continue with will be the 5k Run/walk and Girls Rock One mile.

“We want to continue with the Women in Sport theme and encourage young girls and women to have an event every year.

“This is not just for women in sports but all women of all ages to come out and participate.”

A twist to this year’s event will feature a mother/daughter race. Category winners will receive a gift certificate for a hotel which they can use for Mother’s Day.

The full list of race options are now: one mile run child/5k walk; one mile run child/5k run; 5k walk adult or child combination; 5k run adult or child/5k walk adult or child; 5k run adult or child combination.

“We will be awarding monetary prizes to the top three women in the 5K run, while there will be gift certificates for the top three under-18 girls in the Girls Rock One mile,” Watson added.

“There will be a plaque awarded to the company with the most participants and monetary awards to the National Governing Body with the most participants and the school with the most participants.”

The event will take place on Sunday, April 27 at 3pm. The first 400 to sign up will receive t-shirts, bags and goodies.

Both races will start and finish at Argus, the title sponsor.

Sign up is on www.racedayworld.com or forms will be delivered to schools, companies, gyms and they can be dropped off at the BNAA office on Burnaby Hill.
