Lambe joins Mansfield

Lambe, right, has signed for Mansfield

Reggie Lambe, the Bermuda winger, finally completed his move to Sky Bet League Two side Mansfield Town yesterday, The Royal Gazette can confirm.

The 23-year-old had been expected to sign before last weekend’s game at Wycombe Wanderers, but the deal was stalled while Paul Cox, the Mansfield manager, sweated on whether he would be granted permission to strengthen his squad by the club’s board.

Lambe impressed Cox while training with Mansfield last week, scoring two goals in a behind-closed-doors friendly match against North Counties East Football League side Worksop.

After his team’s 2-1 defeat at Adams Park last Saturday, Cox said: “I still hope I can bring [Reggie] in. If not we will have to soldier on. If I have to stick to my quota of 21 [players] we will have to do the best we possibly can.

“Reggie is a good player who would give us another dimension when we want to try different systems. He can play anywhere across midfield, in the hole or up front.”

Lambe had been on trial at League One side Bradford City in pre-season after a three-month stint at Swedish side Nyköpings.

He began his career with Championship side Ipswich Town and was given his debut by manager Roy Keane.

He had a loan spell at Bristol Rovers, who have since been relegation to the non-League, before joining Major League Soccer side Toronto FC, where he made 66 appearances, scoring five goals before being released.

Lambe, who made his Bermuda debut at the age of 16 against Saint Kitts and Nevis in 2007, has made 12 appearances for his country, scoring four goals.

Mansfield defeated Morecambe 1-0 at home last night to climb to tenth in the table. Forward Alex Fisher scored in the final minute with a header from the left side of the six yard box.

n Nahki Wells’s Huddersfield Town dropped into the Championship relegation zone last night after drawing 0-0 at home against Wigan Athletic.

Town are 22nd in the table, with five points from seven games.
