Quartet set for challenge

Jump to it: Michael Rodriques will be in action this weekend

Michael Rodrigues, Philip Correia, Kelby Lusher and Kirista Rabain will represent Bermuda when the FEI World Jumping Challenge for Category A competitors is held today and tomorrow at the National Equestrian Centre.

The event was postponed from the original November date due to hurricane damage done to the centre.

This year, the FEI World Jumping Challenge is entering its 36th year of existence. The competition was created to provide less experienced jumping riders with an opportunity to compete on an international level without having to leave their own countries.

This competition also contributed to develop jumping, one of the Olympic and most popular equestrian disciplines worldwide. Many riders who have participated in the FEI World Jumping Challenge still compete at elite level. There are three categories A (1.20m), category B (1.10m) and category C (1m).

Categories A and B consist of two competitions of two rounds and for Category C, one competition of four rounds over different courses designed by a course designer appointed by the FEI. This year, Santiago Varela from Spain who has produced the course plans.

Competition begins today at noon for Category A with action beginning tomorrow at 8am.
