The Bermuda national team are taking on American college team Fairleigh Dickinson in an indoor game on Thursday night.

Pat Scarpello, the FDU Devils head coach, is an assistant coach withe Bermuda took the New Jersey-based team to the island for preseason training before they face Bermuda at Bermuda High School on Thursday, starting at 7pm.

“We love it,” Scarpello said of Bermuda. “The weather back home’s not too favourable right now. It’s very cold and snowy back home so this is a great opportunity for us to get in some pretty nice weather before we start our season in February.

“We’ve got about 30 players down here and we’re actually going to be playing the Bermuda national team on Thursday night at BHS, a real small facility for us, but it will be a great opportunity to play with the national team, and indoor’s a different game to field lacrosse, so it will be fun.”

Scarpello returns to the island “three or four times a year” to work with the Bermuda team.

“With the World Championships coming up in Manchester [next year], we’ll be preparing for those this year,” he said.
