Millwall coach on lookout for future stars

Former West Ham defender Brown is visiting the island

Kenny Brown, the director of coaching at Sky Bet Championship side Millwall, will conduct a training programme at the North Field, National Sports Centre, next month.

The Footy Star programme will be held from July 14 to 26 and will include individual, small and large group training, early morning training, goalkeeper sessions, a showcase football match and a nutrition seminar.

Brown, a Uefa pro licence coach, is a former defender for West Ham United, Norwich City, Crystal Palace and Reading and has more than 15 years coaching experience and is looking forward to the trip to Bermuda.

“I’m really looking forward to visiting Bermuda for the first time and especially to get the opportunity to work with the players and staff from Bermuda,” Brown said.

“I’m interested in sampling the culture and meeting the Bermudian people, who I have only heard great things about.”

There will also be a special guest appearance from Omari Hutchinson, an Arsenal Academy wonderkid.

The sessions are open to boys and girls aged between 12 to 15 in the junior group and 16 and over in the senior group.

Vinzie Zuill, the president of Footy Promotions, who are organising the programme, said: “This is an exciting new programme for the football players in Bermuda, which focuses on player development.

“We feel during the summer is a great time to personally prepare yourself for the upcoming session, school league, professional environment or individual goals.

“We are looking forward to the launch of the Star programme. On Sundays, we will be hosting early morning ‘breakfast club’ sessions, where players can challenge themselves to wake up early to train.

“In the field sessions the players will be working hard to improve their skills.

“Therefore, they will be given an opportunity to showcase their talents in our showcase matches on July 22 in front of a scout from a professional UK club.

“We are also offering sessions for goalkeepers. The programme will conclude with a closing message and nutritional seminar.

“Players should attend the Star programme as it is a platform to train at a high standard and also a possibility to be scouted by a top club.”
