Argus backing Triple Challenge again

The Argus Group has announced that it is sponsoring the opening event for the third year at the Bermuda Triple Challenge this month.

The Argus Urban Foot Race will take place on the opening night of the annual three-day fitness event.

Runners will race around a route in St George's that leads them through a course featuring 27 obstacles over three kilometres. The obstacles will test runners' endurance and strength and will be inspired by CrossFit.

The Argus Urban Foot Race is the first of three events that make up the Bermuda Triple Challenge, a physical fitness competition that aims to showcase Bermuda's beauty, history and culture.

The 2017 Bermuda Triple Challenge drew more than 1,100 competitors and this is expected to increase this year, with international fitness aficionados being targeted.

The races will take place in St George's, South Shore and Royal Naval Dockyard from March 16 to 18 and will raise funds for six local charities: The Reading Clinic, The Duke of Edinburgh International Award, SCARS, The Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies, WindReach and The Learning Disabilities Association of Bermuda.

A portion of the race registration fees will be donated to the charities and the Bermuda Triple Challenge will make a charitable donation for each of the sponsor teams that enter. In addition, participants are encouraged to raise funds in support of their team, and 100 per cent of those funds raised are donated to the charities.

Alison Hill, chief executive officer of the Argus Group, said: “We are delighted that the Argus Urban Foot Race will once again be kick-starting the Bermuda Triple Challenge. We encourage participants who are Argus health members to track their fitness on our new wellness platform, Virgin Pulse, as they prepare for the big event.”

Jason Correia, co-director of the Bermuda Triple Challenge, said: “We are grateful to Argus for sponsoring the Argus Urban Foot Race again. With the support of our sponsors, we are aiming to raise $80,000 for six charities this year.”

Following the race on Friday, runners and spectators are invited to join in a community block party featuring music from Emcee Nadanja, to celebrate the fitness challenge weekend.

The Bermuda Triple Challenge is open to individuals and teams of up to five people aged 13 and older. Participants can sign up for one, two or all three events. Registration for the races closes on March 14. For further information and to register, visit www.BDAtriplechallenge.com.
