Youngsters prepare for tournament in Maryland

American dream: Leule Simmons, left, David Goonewardene, Jehziyh Rawlins and Dakari Minors went to Maryland

Bermuda Table Tennis Association coaches Jaymo Durham and Khalid Davis travelled with a group of four young players, Jehziyh Rawlins, David Goonewardene, Dakari Minors and Leule Simmons, to a five-day training camp at Maryland Table Tennis Club last week.

Durham said the aim was to develop the players in preparation for the North American Teams tournament in Washington over the Thanksgiving holiday in November.

“The players are some of the best of the talent pool we developed in previous camps and are very keen to train, particularly as they haven’t had much opportunity since the closure of Smash in April,” the BTTA said. “We are still looking for affordable spacing in that regard, but are hopeful that a government-owned building can be made available. We are optimistic that the high-quality training and league-night competition will inspire them to continue to work on their games diligently, as they are the future of Bermuda table tennis.”
