Special Olympics squad heads to Abu Dhabi

Bermuda's 13-member team heads to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, today for the Special Olympics World Summer Games.

The team will compete in athletics, tennis, boccia, bowling and equestrianism.

Kristopher Trott, will compete in the 100 and 200 metres, as well as the long jump and 4x100 relay.

J'Naysha Maloney will compete in the 25, 50 and 100 walk. Bridget Marshall, Danielle Gibbons, Solay Thomas and Tiannie Lowe are the other female members in the team.

Marshall will compete in tennis and athletics, Gibbons will participate in the 100 and 200, while and Maloney and Thomas are both walkers.

Lowe will compete in bowling and the 25 and 50, as well as long jump. Other male competitors include Del-Che Landy, Damon Emery and Kemari Dill, who will compete in athletics.

Carlton Thompson and Wayne Smith are both competing internationally for the first time, while Eden Woollery will participate in equestrian, as well as the 50 and 100 walk and 100. Micah Lambert is competing in tennis.

Some 7,500 athletes from 190 countries will compete in 24 Olympic sports. The opening ceremony will take place on March 14 at the Zayed Sports City Stadium.
