Sea Venture suffer first loss

There are no undefeated teams left as Softball Bermuda heads into its final week of league play.

Sea Venture picked up their first loss as Docksiders beat them 21-17 in A Division.

After downing Paraquet Flyers 26-11, Sea venture are 8-1 with a crucial contest against Blue Wahoos (7-2) on Tuesday at 9pm.

Wahoos stumbled this past week when they lost 11-10 to Chubb Kings (2-6). Chubb won on a walk-off hit by Josh Hart, who was making his final appearance for the club.

Elsewhere in the A Division, Docksiders (6-4) beat Hakuna Mata Charters (1-9) 16-11. Chubb was nipped 9-8 by Paraquet Flyers (6-4) while X-Bats (5-3) downed Platano Power (2-7).

Outback Skylights picked up their first victory of the year in the Women’s Division by knocking off last year’s double-winner Hardknockz 14-7.

Latreece Fray, Sarah Robinson, and Kyanne Scott were all 2-3 for Hardknockz. Stacey Paynter was 2-4 with two RBI to help lead Skylights to the triumph. Team-mate Adrienne Smatt (1-2) also had two RBIs.

That loss coupled with Angels (8-1) beatingthe PHC Zebras 21-16, contributed to the ascension of Angels to the league title after a one-year absence.

Shawnette Perott (3-3) and Rickelle Smith (3-4) led the hit parade for Angels. Smith had five RBI to go along with her three hits. Akanke Parsons (3-30) and Natasha Trott (3-4, 5 RBI) were the top hitters for PHC.

Angels are scheduled to meet Skylights (1-8) in the first round of the play-offs with Hardnockz (6-3) and PHC (3-6) facing off in the other semi-final.

There were no games played in the Corporate Division, but Athene Warriors (7-2) will head into the play-offs as the No 1 seed. Best Shipping and PWC both finished 4-5 with KPMG at 3-6.

There were no contests in the B Division as well. Team Smokey (7-2) will go into the play-offs as the top team. The rest of the play-off pairings are up in the air as FIU Scared Hitless (4-4) will take on Beach Bums (3-5) tomorrow at 6pm while Raggamuffins (3-6) can only sit and watch the outcome of this game.

There was a definite divide between the haves and have nots in the B Division as Buffaloes (8-1) will face off against Shooters (1-8) in the semis. The other side of the bracket pits Super Express (7-2) against Five O’s (2-7).

In last week’s contests, Buffaloes shutdown Five O’s 20-5 while Super Express slipped past Shooters 13-12. Jeff Quiz was 3-4 in the loss while team-mate Stephen Pacheco was 3-5.

Guest player Dylan DeSilva had three RBIs as did Mike Madeiros. Phillip Burgess was the big hitter for Super Express powering his side with two homers and four RBI. Antoine Williams helped in a big way with a grand-slam homer.

Games are only scheduled for tomorrow and Tuesday at the Michael Preece Stadium at Bernard Park. Games start at 6pm.
