Cleaning contract secured through jobs initiative

An initiative to get jobless Bermudians back to work has continued with the award of a cleaning contract for the Dame Lois Browne Evans Building.Cathy-Ann Symons, unemployed for the last two years, said the programme should get full-time work for two or three people. She has been taken on to hire unemployed workers through the Department of Labour and Training.Ms Symons said more people could have been given part-time employment, but full-time workers had been chosen because the job came with benefits.Economy and Trade Minister Patrice Minors explained the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) was offering work through its Small Business Construction Incubator and Hands Up Empowerment Programmes.BEDC partnered with the Ministry of Government Estates to run a cleaning contract tendering for the new police and court facility.
