Chamber calls for new govt to form Economic Advisory Board

Bermuda Chamber of Commerce president Ronnie Viera

The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce last night called for the new OBA Government to create an Economic Advisory Board to aid in repairing the economy.Chamber President Ronnie Viera said that the proposed board would advise the Minister of Finance on economic planning, providing the new minister with stakeholder input.“The economy is a top priority for the Chamber and we intend to make an official application to Government in short order requesting the formation of a statutory economics advisory board with members drawn from the various representative business groups, business leaders and other stakeholders,” he said.“Previously, these stakeholder groups have not been able to participate in macroeconomic planning, which is unfortunate given that it is these same stakeholders who have suffered most significantly over the past three years of recession.“We believe that through close collaboration the Government will benefit greatly from having input and knowledge transfer from industry experts.”The Chamber also congratulated the party on their election victory, saying that they look forward to getting down to business with the new Premier and his Cabinet.
