The Premier told the country yesterday that today's General Election was a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape Bermuda's politics” and close the divide in Bermuda.

David Burt said: “Bermuda will go to the polls in what will be remembered as one of the most important elections in our lifetime. Why do I say that? It's because the next government will shape the future of Bermudians' economy as we look to recover from the worst global pandemic in a century.

“And I say that because we also face a possible second wave of the coronavirus.”

He appealed to the public to return the PLP to power.

Mr Burt was speaking at Alaska Hall, the PLP's headquarters on Court Street, Hamilton, flanked by most of the party's candidates, at the party's last press conference before the vote.

He highlighted some of the election platform promises, including the creation of a National Digital Bank and transformation of the City of Hamilton into a “livable city”.

He added: “This election, our team has put together the most detailed platform of any party and it details concrete plans to rebuild our economy with Bermudians at heart.

“We have the opportunity to come together across the divides in our community and giving a mandate to a party that can handle the coronavirus well and has a realistic plan to turn our economy around.”

Mr Burt said he was confident that voters would turn out to the polls, despite fears about Covid-19. He added: “The PLP doesn't just show up at election time, we are here all the time.

“It is my hope that people will come out to vote. The Minister of Health has done everything in her power to make sure that it is safe to vote tomorrow and we want all persons to come out and express their democratic right, and we will live by the results of voters.”
