Geoffrey Faiella and Tia Smith have been named as the latest One Bermuda Alliance candidates for the House of Assembly.

According to a statement from the OBA, Mr Faiella will stand in Devonshire East, Constituency 11, in the next election, while Ms Smith will represent the party in St George’s North, Constituency 1.

Both seats are held by representatives of the Progressive Labour Party, with Christopher Famous holding the Devonshire East seat and Renée Ming representing St George’s North.

An OBA spokeswoman praised the resumes of both of the candidates in the statement.

“Geoffrey’s unwavering commitment to service and integrity is fundamental to his belief in putting the needs of the community first and ensuring that every voice is heard,” the spokeswoman said.

“A passionate leader and a proud Bermudian, he is thrilled to rejoin life in public service as a member of the Devonshire East community.”

Mr Faiella served as a Crown Counsel in the Department of Public Prosecutions before he was posted to the Ministry of Legal Affairs, where he advised on public policy.

In that role, he drafted legislation to enhance protection of local wildlife and worked to strengthen Bermuda’s Proceeds of Crime framework.

The father of two, who now works in financial services, has also served on the board of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society and the Centre Against Abuse.

Ms Smith holds Registered Professional Liability Underwriter and Associate in Underwriting designations and recently received her Cyber Professional Liability Practitioner designation.

The OBA spokeswoman said: “She served on the board of directors for the Bermuda Zoological Society for ten years and the board of the Bermuda Education Network for two years.

“Passionate about young people experiencing a robust and enriching education, Tia served as the PTA president at Prospect Primary for two years and the PTA president at East End Primary for a year.”

Ms Smith is married to Tim Smith, a former journalist for The Royal Gazette, and is the mother of three.
