Bermuda’s top execs to speak on future of industry at conference

An array of leading Bermuda executives will be having their say on the future of the insurance industry at a major conference in Hamilton over the next couple of days.Among those discussing major developments in the industry at the Insurance Day Sumnmit will be Alterra Capital CEO Marty Becker, Ariel Re CEO Tom Hulst, Ironshore CEO Kevin Kelley, Endurance Specialty CEO David Cash, XL Re CEO James Veighte, Argo Group CEO Mark Watson, Validus Re CEO Conan Ward, Hiscox CEO Bronek Masojada and Hiscox Bermuda CEO Charles Dupplin.CatCo Investment management CEO Tony Belisile, Catalina Re CFO John Weale and Marsh IAS Management Services managing director David Ezekiel will also participate in the event, which starts at 8.50am tomorrow at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.One of the biggest hitters among insurance brokers, Joe Plumeri, chairman and CEO of Willis Group Holdings, will deliver the opening keynote address on Tuesday morning, on ‘Commercial Sustainability and the Golden Age of Insurance’, following introductory remarks by Business Development and Tourism Minister Patrice Minors.The highlight of the Tuesday panels from a Bermuda standpoint will probably be at 11.50am, when the topic of ‘Keeping Bermuda Competitive’ is discussed by Mr Becker and Mr Kelley, as well as Endurance president William Jewett and Guy Carpenter & Co global chief economist and risk strategist Joan Lamm-Tennant.Bermuda Stock Exchange CEO Greg Wojciechowski will moderate the panel.Other panels will discuss Solvency II, merger and acquisition activity, investment strategy and improving stock market valuations.On Wednesday, Governor Sir Richard Gozney will deliver welcoming remarks, before Allianz board of management member Clement Booth addresses the conference on the evolution of insurance and reinsurance in the global economy.A chief executive leadership panel, featuring Mr Cash, Mr Hulst, Mr Veghte, as well as Richard Whitt, president and chief operating officer of the Markel Corporation, will follow.Then Mr Masojada will deliver a keynote address, entitled ‘Admire the Wake, Then Set the Course’.The final two panels on Wednesday will feature the energy market after the Deepwater Horizon and the impact of model changes.Useful website:idsummitbermuda[AT]informa.com
