Reinsurance demystified this week

Demystifying Reinsurance is a workshop for insurance and reinsurance company employees at all levels — intermediaries; attorneys specialising in reinsurance; insurance company professionals; as well as regulators and staff.

Scheduled for Wednesday, March 19 and Thursday March 20 at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel, the event — which is described as ‘A basics of property/casualty reinsurance course for the Bermuda market’, is a combined effort between the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA) and the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR).

The course is designed to provide the degree of depth in the topic areas that the attendees demand.

The course description states: “Aimed at industry professionals, Re Basics provides a thorough introduction to property/casualty reinsurance with an emphasis on the perspective and concerns of Bermuda insurers and reinsurers. Attendees will be guided through all steps of the reinsurance transaction and its impact on an insurance company’ bottom line.”

Industry experts from Renaissance Re, Willis Re, Guy Carpenter, Partner Re, the BMA, Validus, Aspen Capital Markets, ABIR, and others will lead the sessions, and the programme offers a lively and challenging agenda and unmatched opportunity to interact with top reinsurance executives.

Among the objectives of the workshop are:

• discuss the types of reinsurance contracts;

• discuss concerns of the marketplace;

• Learn the ins and outs of risk transfer;
