Aviation and space specialist to join Hamilton Re

Richard Sammons: To join Hamilton Re in October

Hamilton Re has hired aviation and space specialist Richard Sammons, who is joining the company in the position of senior vice-president, specialty.

The Bermuda-based property casualty reinsurer of Hamilton Insurance Group, in a press release announcing the appointment, said that Mr Sammons will be reporting to Claude Lefebvre, chief underwriting officer casualty and specialty, and will be responsible for developing Hamilton Re’s specialty book of business worldwide.

Hamilton Re, a Bermuda-based class four property and casualty reinsurer, rated ‘A-’ (excellent) with a stable outlook by AM Best Company, says it leverages analytics and research to create underwriting and investment value for clients and shareholders, and the group, as of the end of March, had more than $800 million in capital.

Chief executive officer Kathleen Reardon said: “I am very pleased to welcome Richard to Hamilton Re. Given his extensive background in specialty lines, as well as his established broker and client network, I have no doubt that the development of our specialty book is in good hands.”

Mr Sammons said: “I am extremely excited about joining such a dynamic group.

“Hamilton Re is directed by one of the most impressive boards in the industry and backed by strong and skilled investors. Working with the company’s highly talented team, there’s a real opportunity to continue building on the firm’s value proposition for specialty lines and deliver superior value to shareholders.”

The press release continued by stating that Mr Sammons spent 11 years with QBE Re, most recently as portfolio manager with responsibility for all aspects of the aviation, space and personal accident books of business. From 1998 to 2003, Mr Sammons gained experience as a broker of aviation and space risks, first at Aon and then at Willis Re.

Mr Sammons holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Maritime Business and Law from the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom. He takes up his new position in October.
