Two young Bermudians have been taken on as graduate trainees by Ace Bermuda, part of the Ace Group.

James Chiappa and Richard Voaden will be part of the company’s Bermuda-based insurance operations.

The pair follow in the footsteps of previous Bermudians who have launched insurance careers through the Ace Graduate Trainee Programme.

“It is certainly gratifying to see the results of ACE’s investment in student development as we welcome our newest graduate trainees James and Richard,” said Rees Fletcher, division president, Ace Bermuda.

“They have both benefited from our insurance internship programmes to help set their career paths and now they join the growing number of trainees who have started their careers at Ace.”

Mr Chiappa graduated last year from the College of Charleston with a degree in Business Administration. He previously worked at Ace when he participated in the summer internship programme in 2010.

As a graduate trainee he will work in Ace Bermuda’s property department.

Meanwhile, Mr Voaden will work as a graduate trainee in the political risk subsidiary Sovereign Risk Insurance.

He participated in the inaugural Ace Select Internship in 2013, which is a dedicated insurance programme aimed at Bermudian university students interested in a career in the Island’s international insurance industry.

Mr Voaden and Mr Chiappa will, during the two-year graduate programme gain “a professional insurance education where they can gain industry knowledge, technical underwriting skills, and practical work experience”, Ace said in a statement.

They will have opportunities to participate in Ace’s overseas early career development programme.

Since it was launched, Ace’s graduate programme has helped these Bermudians to establish insurance careers:

• Jesse Kirkland joined Ace’s San Francisco office in 2014 as professional associate with the Inland Marine team.

• Alexander Godfrey joined Ace Tempest Re as a catastrophe modeller graduate trainee in 2013.

• Venetia Furbert joined Ace Bermuda in 2013 as graduate trainee with the Professional Lines department.

• James Hillen joined Ace Bermuda’s actuarial department as a graduate trainee in 2013 and recently transferred to Ace’s Philadelphia office to pursue his actuarial career in the company’s Medical Risk department.

• Christopher Parker and Nicholas Boorman both joined Ace in 2011 as graduate trainees and were appointed assistant underwriters in the Excess Liability and Property departments respectively following their successful completion of the programme in 2013.

• Kimberly Lewis, Ace Bermuda’s first graduate trainee joined in 2010 and was appointed assistant underwriter in the Professional Lines department in 2012 on completion of the programme. She was promoted to underwriter in April 2013.
