Fletcher named Ace Bermuda chairman

Global insurer Ace has appointed Bermudian Rees Fletcher as chairman of its Island arm.

Mr Fletcher’s new role is one of three promotions at the firm, with Joseph Clabby, who previously worked for Ace in Europe, stepping up to Mr Fletcher’s previous role of division president.

And Judy Gonsalves is to become chief underwriting officer, a move up from her previous role as executive vice-president.

Ace chairman of insurance for North America said: “Rees, Joe and Judy are proven leaders at Ace, who know how to apply Ace’s underwriting strengths to benefit our most important clents, especially around their complex multi-national risk.

“Brokers in the Bermuda market will appreciate the presence of these solution-oriented professionals who are focused on delivering high-quality capacity and expertise to this key market.”

Mr Fletcher has worked for Ace for more than a quarter of a century and served as division president of Ace Bermuda from 2004.

In his new role, he will give business development guidance and risk management oversight and look after strategic relationships in the Bermuda market.

Mr Clabby, who will continue in his present role as division president of Ace global accounts as well as taking on the new role, joined Ace in 2001 and worked in the US before transferring to Europe.

Ms Gonsalves joined Ace in 1992 as an assistant underwriter and worked in several roles senior underwriting and excess liability roles before becoming executive vice president of the firm in 2010.
