The US insurance arm of Bermudian-based Hamilton Insurance Group has appointed a new chief operating officer.

Michael Garceau, who will start work next week, is a 25-year veteran of the industry and joins Hamilton USA from insurance giant AIG.

Seraina Macia, CEO of Hamilton USA, said: “Having worked with him in the past, I know first hand the significant strengths, both strategic and tactical, that he brings to his new position.

“As we identify the many opportunities represented by the $500 billion US property and casualty market, Michael will play a key role in ensuring the decisions we make are executed in a sound and sustainable manner.”

Mr Garceau was chief operating officer for AIG’s Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

Before that, he worked at XL Group for five years, latterly as chief financial officer for global insurance.

He has also worked in senior positions at Zurich North America and Chubb.
