Walk will raise scholarship funds

Next generation: the 14th annual Bermuda Railway Trek will raises money to support insurance-related studies for young Bermudians

Willis Towers Watson and JLT Specialty Bermuda are jointly promoting the 14th annual Bermuda Railway Trek, which raises money to support insurance-related studies for young Bermudians.

The walk will take place on, November 30 from Somerset Bridge to the Swizzle Inn.

The annual event was founded in 2004 by Gary Meggs of Southern Company and Greg McCollister of McGriff Seibels & Williams.

The walk supports Bermudians who pursue a Risk Management or Actuarial Science undergraduate degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. GSU has the largest dedicated risk management programme in the United States.

Bermuda College now has a collaborative and successful “2+2” programme where Bermudians can attend two years of schooling locally and transfer to GSU as a third-year student.

To date the fund has awarded $175,000 in undergraduate scholarships and ten Bermudians have successfully graduated from the programme. Sixteen students from Bermuda are currently enrolled at GSU and four are being supported by the Bermuda Scholarship Fund.
