Fintech, diversity and mergers and acquisitions in the re/insurance industry are just some of the topics on the agenda for an annual conference taking place later this year.

The XL Catlin Bermuda Insurance Marketplace Conference will be held at O’Hara House, on Bermudiana Road, on October 11, with the keynote speech being given by Patrick Tannock, managing director, XL Catlin Leadership Council and chief executive officer, Insurance, XL Bermuda Ltd.

It is being organised by the Bermuda Insurance Institute, and the CEO, Malcolm Butterfield, said the theme of the conference this year is “Bermuda Affirms Its Relevance in a New Reinsurance Era”.

“The re/insurance sector is facing a range of challenges,” said Mr Butterfield. “This conference will look at the emergence of fintech, diversity and inclusion, mergers and acquisitions, corporate social responsibility, as well as the views of the Bermuda Government.”

Mr Tannock said XL Catlin is proud to be the title sponsor for this year’s BII conference, adding: “The Bermuda market is a dynamic and solution-oriented marketplace that has fostered an entrepreneurial culture based on innovation and calculated risk.

“The Bermuda market’s ability to continue its track record of innovation and adaptability to ensure that we remain relevant and provide value in a period of intense disruption has never been more important to our sustainability as a jurisdiction.”

Matthew Irvine, chief underwriting officer, professional liability, Insurance, XL Bermuda Ltd, said: “We see the re-insurance industry undergoing tremendous change globally. Its stakeholders are looking at the jurisdictions they operate in, the way they will transact business, the products needed for the clients of tomorrow, the working environment of the future and the new responsibilities of a re/insurance company in this new era.”

The conference will consist of stand-alone speakers, fireside chats and CEO and corporate social responsibility panels.

Speakers will include Wayne Caines, the Minister of National Security; Brian O’Hara, chairman of Front Street Advisers; Naz Farrow, CEO of Colonial Group International; Michael Krefta, CEO of Hiscox Re and ILS; Kim Wilkerson, regional head of claims, XL Bermuda Ltd; Mike Morrison, CEO of KPMG Bermuda; Matthew Britten, a partner at PWC; Joe Rego, CEO at Aon (Bermuda) Ltd; and Katherine Cupidore, director of consulting, Deloitte.

Individual registration fees are: $300 per person for a BII member, and $375 for non-members.
