BFIS speed networking events prove a hit
Some 75 students from the island's public and private high schools gained a better understanding about the variety of careers available in the insurance industry at the sixth Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies speed networking event.
Held over three days, the event provided senior students with the opportunity to meet and speak with professionals working in the industry. Students attended sessions relevant to their career goals, either actuarial, law or IT; accounting and finance; or insurance in general.
“We receive great feedback from students who find the experience of being able to chat with professionals from a variety of different careers, educational backgrounds and skill sets extremely useful,” a BFIS spokesperson said.
“During the hourlong speed networking sessions the students rotate several times, so they are able to talk to a number of professionals. Lunch follows which provides further opportunities to continue conversations.”
BFIS said invitations are extended mainly to seniors in all of Bermuda's high schools, who can select which session they wish to attend. Each school may send up to six students, and occasionally more. Students may attend more than one session if room is available.
“BFIS student networking is made possible with strong industry support from all the insurance professionals who give up their valuable time to meet with the students and help them focus on their academic goals and career choices,” the spokesperson said. “Grateful thanks are extended to Axa XL, Chubb and KPMG for providing this year's venues.”
