Intern has passion for reinsurance broking

Babson College business administration major, Isabella Boonstra, is enjoying her summer internship at Marsh McLennan’s leading global risk and reinsurance specialist, Guy Carpenter.

Ms Boonstra, a graduate of Suffield Academy in Connecticut who is entering her senior year at Babson in Wellesley, Massachusetts, was selected to support the company operations in the Bermuda office.

Ms Boonstra was part of the Marsh, Guy Carpenter weeklong intensive internship programme in 2020, where students learnt about commercial (re)insurance and its different segments, including property, healthcare, professional liability, cyber and captives. Students also had the opportunity to interact with executives from both Guy Carpenter and Marsh.

Jenni Rowntree Estis, Head of Operations and Senior Vice President of Broking at Guy Carpenter Bermuda, said: “Isabella was an attentive and eager participant, and those that met her at our firm found her to be very engaged during the rotation. We were delighted to be able to offer her an internship for summer 2021.”

Ms Boonstra added: “While still in the early stages of my career, I have found a great passion for the reinsurance industry, and specifically broking.

“I am thoroughly enjoying this opportunity and the chance to learn new things every day. My colleagues have supported me tremendously and have shared useful tools and strategies for achieving high quality execution. I look forward to furthering my career in the industry.”
