Kanelos appointed executive chairman at Oceanview Re

Andrew Kanelos has been appointed executive chairman and chief governance officer at Bermudian-based Oceanview Reinsurance Ltd.

The Bermuda Class E insurance company said the appointments are effective from December 13.

It added that Mr Kanelos will be based in Hamilton and will be responsible for directing the management activities of Oceanview Re.

He will also become a member of the board of directors of Oceanview Re.

“We are delighted to welcome Andrew to Oceanview Re,” said Bill Egan, chairman and chief executive officer of corporate parent Oceanview Holdings Limited.

“As a highly experienced executive with a proven track record and broad relationships in the reinsurance industry, his wealth of knowledge, deep expertise and leadership will be invaluable in directing our team.”

Oceanview Re said Mr Kanelos has more than 20 years of experience in the life and annuity industry, including ten years in leadership roles.

Most recently, he served as managing director of Transamerica Life Insurance’s offshore companies, where he oversaw five of Transamerica/Aegon’s Bermuda life and reinsurance entities.

Mr Kanelos also has experience in market research, product pricing, annuity reinsurance solutions and captive management from earlier roles at Merrill Lynch, the Chubb Group and consulting services engagements with ING’s institutional financial products division.

Oceanview Re provides customised reinsurance solutions for fixed annuities and other asset intensive life insurance liabilities.
