Karan Martin has taken on the role of chief operating officer at Legal & General Reinsurance, the second woman to join the senior leadership team this year.

Melody Greenslade became head of human resources at L&G Re in June.

Legal & General Reinsurance is the Bermudian-based global reinsurance hub of Legal & General Group Plc, a multinational financial services company offering life and annuity reinsurance solutions.

Ms Martin joins the company from Maryland, where she was chief operating officer at Legal & General America and responsible for supporting the growth of its term life insurance business.

She brings broad experience in a variety of leadership and board roles in the telecommunications, tech support start-up, and financial services sectors, including Telefonica 02 and Xerox, and has been with the Legal & General Group since 2011.

In her previous role, she helped successfully steer operations through the pandemic, looking after the wellbeing of up to 800 people, while transforming the customer experience through leading technology.

Ms Martin said: “I’m excited to join the Bermuda business as part of a strong team that is energised and enthusiastic about the expansion opportunities. I’m looking forward to using my operational background to build on the firm foundations for growth, while supporting the business by facilitating further innovation.

“I’ve seen the power of technology in action and how it can create phenomenal change. I am delighted that technology is a key part of the strategy at L&G Re.”

Ms Greenslade brings 15 years of human resources experience at Expertise Group, the island-based HR consulting and employment services firm, where she specialised in senior level consulting in immigration, recruitment, and training and development, before moving into HR strategic consulting.

This is a crucial role as part of the growth plans for Legal & General in Bermuda.

Ms Greenslade said: “I thrive in a fast-paced environment and especially enjoy helping companies strategise and problem solve. L&G Re is a dynamic, agile organisation, and I am excited to be a part of such a collaborative senior leadership team.

“I’m keen to develop the HR department in support of our ongoing development, and make an impact by delivering an effective people strategy from start to finish.”

“This is an exciting phase of our journey, and we look forward to L&G Re’s continued success, with both helping to lead the company.”
