Bermudian-based Axis Capital Holdings Ltd, the global specialty underwriter, has made two leadership appointments, hiring Stephen Lord as global chief information officer and Robert Barriero as global head of strategic sourcing and corporate real estate.

Axis said the hirings reflect the continued focus that the company is placing on enhancing how it operates and goes to market through its “How We Work” programme, which was introduced by president and CEO Vince Tizzio last year.

As global CIO, Mr Lord will report directly to Mr Tizzio and serve on the company’s executive committee.

He joins Axis from The Hartford where his most recent role was CIO, Global Specialty, Corporate Systems, HIMCO, and Enterprise Architecture.

Mr Barriero joins Axis in a newly created role, and will report to chief administrative and legal officer Conrad Brooks.

He will oversee the company’s vendor management and facilities teams as one consolidated unit.

Most recently, Mr Barriero served as head of Property Management — Americas at Morgan Stanley.
