Bermuda market executives are among those on the ReInsurance Business inaugural list of Rising Stars in reinsurance.

Two from Hamilton Re and one from Martello Re are among those on the list and a fourth is with Hiscox Re & ILS.

Those named include Alanah Bacon assistant vice-president, Financial Lines, and Diarra Franks underwriter, Specialty Reinsurance, both from Hamilton Re Bermuda.

Also on the list is Sherice Bashir, head of Reinsurance Operations at Martello Re, and India Tara Bascome, Finance associate at Hiscox Re & ILS, who is also an executive committee member of Women in Reinsurance Bermuda.

Some 11 per cent of those selected for the inaugural ReInsurance Business list of Rising Stars in reinsurance are from Bermuda offices.

The publication sought nominations this summer from the global reinsurance sector, asking companies to highlight their most exceptional young talent, all of whom are under 40 years old.

The list was narrowed to 38 after recommendations from managers and senior industry professionals, and after nominees were contacted and asked a series of questions.

Questions included information about the candidates’ current roles, key achievements, career goals and contributions.

ReInsurance Business calls them “the first batch of new age heavyweights reshaping the reinsurance industry”.

The publication states: “The leading young professionals in the reinsurance sector have made their mark by expertly handling a wide series of challenges.

“The reinsurance market has seen significant undulations in the second half of 2024, with question marks over the direction of the casualty market and where the property reinsurance market goes next.

“This was driven by global weather events, the huge earthquake in south-eastern Turkey, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, a delayed hangover from some of the after effects of the pandemic, and a record-breaking number of ‘nuclear verdicts’ in the US.

“Against this tumultuous backdrop, ReInsurance Business’ Rising Stars of 2024 have proved their worth, expertly navigating a range of challenging market conditions.”
