Price Forbes Re has appointed Erik Matson, a veteran reinsurance executive, as a senior adviser, as the firm looks to strengthen its position in the American market.

The company said Mr Matson would draw on more than three decades of experience on the carrier side to support its reinsurance business, particularly in evaluating programme structures, managing general agent partnerships and reinsurance capacity.

Mr Matson is the founder of Bridgehaven Europe and Transverse Insurance Group, where he is credited with coining the term “hybrid-front”. Before that, he held senior roles at American International Group, Munich Re and Wholesale Trading Co-op (Gen Cap), building expertise in underwriting operations and reinsurance partnerships.

Patrick Rastiello, chief executive of Price Forbes Re North America, said the appointment would bring a valuable perspective to the business.

“Erik’s experience on the carrier side of the market gives Price Forbes Re a differentiated perspective,” Mr Rastiello said. “His understanding of how insurers and reinsurers evaluate risk, partners and programme structures will be of value as we continue to grow our [United States] business, and we are delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Mr Matson said he was looking forward to contributing to the firm’s growth.

The firm said Mr Matson would also bring a disciplined approach to risk assessment and strategic planning shaped by his military leadership background.
