Scores of Bermuda market executives are in Philadelphia this week for Riskworld 2026, formerly the Risk and Insurance Management Society annual meeting, at the Pennsylvania Convention Centre.

The conference that has been attended by Bermuda insurance industry professionals for several decades brings together the society’s membership of risk managers of major, mostly American corporations.

As buyers of insurance, they are joined by captive insurance professionals and many in the commercial insurance and reinsurance markets.

One of the delegates, John Huff, the chief executive of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers, said Bermuda is well represented at the conference this week.

He said: “There is a good crowd, a significant number of insurers and reinsurers right here in the convention hall. And the Bermuda booth is back.”

He said there is a lot of chatter about artificial intelligence and what it will mean for the industry in terms of efficiencies.

He said: “Bermuda is such a relationship-driven business, that no one is thinking of replacing any of our processes with AI. But how do they enhance it? How do they make it more efficient? And so there are quite a few sessions on AI.”

Together with a large exhibit hall, the event features more than 100 educational sessions on trending industry topics that include pressing issues like artificial intelligence adoption, tariffs and global disruptions.

There are also case studies and interactive sessions, offering delegates strategies to sharpen decision-making and stay ahead in a fast-changing world of risk.

The Bermuda effort will be bolstered this year as the island has become an exhibitor again, after deciding against it in recent years. The new exhibit by the Bermuda Business Development Agency has been described as streamlined and modern.

Missing this year will be the Bermuda reception, another longtime tradition normally held on Tuesday evening.

A highlight of the conference, which ends on Wednesday, will be the fireside chat with Chubb chairman and CEO Evan Greenberg, moderated by Maria Bartiromo, the anchor and global markets editor at Fox Business Network and Fox News Mornings with Maria.

Led by Mr Greenberg, Chubb has grown to become one of the world’s largest insurance companies. He joined the company, then named Ace and with a dominant Bermuda presence, in 2001 as vice-chairman. He was elected president and CEO in May 2004 and chairman in May 2007.

Rims, the hosting organisation of Riskworld, estimates 11,000 attendees this year from 70 countries, together with 300 exhibitors and 300 speakers.
