David Soutter appointed RiverStone International CRO
David Soutter is the new group chief risk officer at RiverStone International, reporting to chief executive Paul Brockman.
The company is an acquirer and reinsurer of legacy and discontinued insurance business.
Operating in the UK company and Lloyd’s of London markets, Bermuda, US and Europe, RiverStone International has transacted a wide variety of deals — from insurance and reinsurance portfolio transfers to company purchases, acquiring more than $17.7 billion of liabilities since 2010 and with around $5.5 billion of total liabilities.
Mr Soutter joined RiverStone International as head of risk in Bermuda in April 2025 with more than 25 years of experience in the global re/insurance market.
Riverstone said his expertise spans enterprise risk management, finance, capital oversight, regulatory engagement and governance across highly regulated insurance environments.
Prior to joining the company, Mr Soutter held a number of senior leadership positions with Zurich Insurance Group, including chief financial officer of its Bermuda operations and, most recently, project director, internal reinsurance.
He is deputy chair of the Insurance and Reinsurance Legacy Association Bermuda and serves as treasurer of the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies.
Mr Brockman said: “Since joining RiverStone International, David has made a significant contribution to the business and has quickly established himself as a trusted member of our experienced leadership team.
“His extensive expertise and deep understanding of risk, capital and regulatory matters make him ideally placed to lead our global risk function. I look forward to continuing to work closely with David in his new role.”
Mr Soutter commented: “The business has built a strong reputation for disciplined risk management and execution, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the group to further strengthen our risk framework and support the company's strategic objectives.”
