James Winn named head of Bermuda office at Brit Re
Brit Re has a new Bermuda head of office, chief underwriting officer James Winn, who will oversee the continued growth of Brit Re, the Bermudian reinsurance platform of Brit Group Holdings Ltd.
Mr Winn’s return to Bermuda, subject to relevant approvals, is expected near the end of the year, when he takes over from the existing head of office, Jonathan Stephenson, the company has said.
The planned transition comes after two years of organisational development in which Mr Stephenson helped build the business to more than $250 million of third-party premium, whilst also establishing a robust underwriting platform to facilitate a growing product suite, including US direct and facultative (D&F), as the latest Brit Re offering.
Mr Winn is managing director, property treaty for Brit in London and has over 35 years’ North American property treaty experience in both the Lloyd’s and Bermuda markets, including almost six years on island, underwriting and managing the North American Property Treaty account for Max Re Ltd.
Joining Mr Winn in Bermuda are two assistant vice-presidents, Sam Lewis and Jolie Broomhead, who will also move from their London teams to help support Brit Re’s growth in casualty treaty and D&F, respectively.
Jon Sullivan, group chief underwriting officer, commented: “We’re delighted that James has agreed to take on the leadership of our Bermuda platform as we look to the next phase of its growth.
“Since its launch two years ago, Brit Re has grown significantly and we continue to be excited by the opportunity to further build the Brit brand in Bermuda.
“I would also like to thank Jonathan, who has played a pivotal role in establishing the platform we have today and we are pleased that he will be with us until early 2027 to ensure a seamless handover.”
