Bermuda victory sets up title match

Bahamas 8 Bermuda 16Bermuda’s national rugby team will defend their NACRA Caribbean Championship title on home soil against Guyana later this month.Lawrence Bird’s side set up a repeat of last year’s final after defeating Bahamas in a ‘do-or-die’ North Zone group game at the Winton Rugby Centre on Saturday.Only victory would do for Bermuda who had to beat Bahamas to stand any chance of defending the title they won last summer.Jahan Cedenio scored the visitors’ try with Ian Henderson adding 11 points with the boot, including two penalties, a drop goal and a conversion.Henderson later described the match, played in scorching heat, as “one of the hardest and most physical games” he’d ever played.Bermuda won the Caribbean Championships for the first time in decades after beating Guyana 11-0 in Georgetown 12 months ago.This year’s final will be played at the National Sport Centre on June 23, with the winners advancing to the 2015 World Cup qualifiers to be held in England.Bermuda, who are 49th in the International Rugby Board’s world rankings, are the top ranked side in the Caribbean.Bermuda squad: Paul Dobinson, Dustin Archibald, Jahan Cedenio, Thomas Greenslade, Mike Williams, David Rourke, Bobby Hurdle, Peter Dunkerley, Andrew Hook, Aldo Campbell, Tony Ward, Pete Dunlop, Henry Paddison, Tom Healy, Ian Henderson, Paull Davis, Lachie Armour, Tom Edwards, Jack Ellison, Neville Zuill, David Pringle, Chris Naylor.
