Police will go into the New Year on top of the Men’s Division after a nervy 25-17 win over Teachers at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Tries from Chiquon Smith, Ryan Murray and Tommy Edwards, plus a conversion and penalty goal from Dan Cole gave Police a 20-0 lead at half-time.

Teachers though have made a habit of second half comebacks and did so again, as Rob Forbes, Chris Naylor and Jahniko Francis all crossed, Francis also kicked a conversion, but missed a penalty as Police got rattled.

Ultimately an Adam Rossides try, and the dominance of the Police scrum made the difference, and the bonus point win keeps them just ahead of Renegades, who ran in six tries in a 42-10 mauling of Mariners.

Tom Healy scored twice, and their were further tries for Maurice Jones, Tyler Simmons, Rich Cumbers and Jaime Baun, with Brian Archibald converting all of them. Chakote Wainwright-Basden and Dustin Archibald scored for Mariners.

In the women’s touch league, there were wins for Mariners and Teachers. Mariners beat Renegades 1-0 through Neeks Borden’s try, while Teachers ran in four unanswered scores against Police, with Najee Pitt-Clarke, Gillian Cross, Lauren Rothwell and Jo Thivierge all touching down.
