Former Olympian Tyler Butterfield produced a sparkling performance to finish just outside the top 50 as a host of Bermuda citizens and residents competed in the Boston Marathon yesterday.

Butterfield finished in a time of 2hr 26min 56sec to finish in 68th place overall and a magnificent seventh in the 40-44 age category.

Domico Watson stopped the clock at 3:00:52 but that time was calculated from the starting gun. With a huge number of runners competing, it can actually take a number of minutes to reach the start line, so Watson actually completed the course in 2:58:26 and finished in 2,510th overall.

Phillip Woollins, 33, was next to complete the 26 miles and will be pleased with his time of 3:15:05, which was just five minutes quicker than Jamie Fraser, 48, who completed the course in 3:20:07 and was inside the top 850 runners in his age category.

Peter Tobin, 53, finished in the top 700 of his age group after finishing in 3:26:27, little more than a minute ahead of Karen Smith, 55, who was the first woman home in the travelling party. Her time of 3:27:49 was enough for her to finish a fantastic seventeenth in her 50-55 age group.

Anna Laura Hocking, 46, was the next runner in the Bermuda cohort to make it in to Boston’s famous bars and restaurants with a time of 3:48:40 before Moses Mufandaedza, 43, a regular on the road-racing scene in Bermuda, finished in 4:11:59. Nicholas Blake, 38, was next home in 4:15:21.

Colm Homan, 51, who was given the Heroes Among Us Award on Friday after he collected $68,410 on behalf of Boston Children’s Hospital after the death of his son Eoghan to a rare form of cancer, finished in 5:28:25.
