Richardson and Coetzee crowned Legends Series champions
Kallan Richardson had double reason to celebrate after winning the Sir Stanley Burgess 5K on Sunday morning.
Richardson crossed the line in the final leg of the Legends Series at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence in 16min 15sec, more than a minute clear of his closest rival Sanchez Smith (17:25) with Shannon Lawrence third (17:38).
Victory ensured that Richardson took home $1,000 for securing overall victory in the Legends Series, earning 93 points after finishing second in the Ludwig Cann 10K and winning the Ray Swan 8K.
Lawrence finished second in the series with 72 points after finishing fourth in the Ludwig Cann 10K and second in the remaining three races. Peter Christopher finished third on 57 points.
Maddie Durkin came home first on the day to win the female race on Sunday morning but was not eligible for the Series victory after not competing in three of the four races.
Durkin finished in a time of 18:15, almost a minute clear of runner-up Estienne Coetzee (19:10), with Stepanka Sprincova third (19:35)
Despite finishing second in the final race, Coetzee was crowned female champion of the Legends Series, with victories in all four legs resulting in a score of 100 points.
That was 26 points clear of Sprincova, who finished on 72, with Mae Tirfe finishing third on 53 points.
The next big event on Bermuda’s road racing circuit is the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby, which takes place on Friday, May 22.
